How to turn off Facebook Messenger notifications on Android

EDIT TO POST SOLUTION: Delete both apps and redownload both apps. Should be fine after that, it worked for me at least.

Got a new phone yesterday (iPhone 11), and now every time I receive a message on Facebook Messenger, I get a notification from the Facebook Messenger app, and also one from the Facebook app.

Very annoying to receive two notifications per message. (The names featured in the screenshot are made-up nonsensical nicknames that cannot be used to trace the sender or find the group chat.)

Anyone know how I can stop this and just get the notification from Facebook Messenger? I’ve looked through settings and couldn’t find any way to stop this. I don’t recall having this issue/having to adjust settings to prevent this on my last phone.
