Oh, boy! I finally figured out that the reason I was unable to open a Word document in AOO was because I was going to the document first and then trying to find out how to open it in AOO. "Open With", in that case, doesn't include the choice of AOO. I guess Mr. Gates isn't interested in converting Microsoft documents to AOO! I now realize that you only need to open Open Office first and then find the document that you want to convert by opening it and choosing "Save As" and then clicking on the "Save As Type" box, choosing "ODF Text Document (.odt)" and clicking "Save". Sometimes, when it opens it, it will be "Read Only". But, after you save it in "ODF Text Document (.odt)", you can edit it. I've gone through your query and the best option I would advise you is to look for a compatibility software or compatibility pack. You can still save it in the docx format but advise your friend on the receiving end to look for the software and install and convert to the desired format or go to the compatibility mode on the title bar of his window and convert to the word 97-2003 format. Hope this becomes of required help. About jere366 Questions Answers Best Answers

You have said that you have sent a word document to someone who had been using Word'97. Now I'm using MS word 2007. Well, in what system you have sent your word document to someone? You can send your word document by an e-mail attachment or by CD, DVD or with pendrive. When you have to click MS Word. Click on File menu and on New. You can see many sub menu's.
