My Chemical Romance can be considered as one of the most popular rock genre music groups that gave us hits after hits in the early 2000s. It was hard not to get addicted to their music. The band was started in Newark in New Jersey and released their debut album called I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love back in 2002. After this, they were offered quite a lot of deals and eagerly signed Reprise Records in the next year itself and also released their major-label debut called Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. After his departure, the group released their fourth studio album called Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys in November of 2010. They were soon to replace the position of Bryar with other drummers such as Michael Pedicone as well as Jarrod Alexander. After their split in 2013, Gerard Way was questioned about the reason why the guys split up, and he said that nobody was at a fault here. While Zane Lowe was being interviewed, he said that every member was pretty sad to close this chapter of their life behind and move on, but it was actually the right thing to do so. He also said that everything was running so great, but if it had run a bit longer, the gold would have fallen apart from their music, and only rust would be left. After a dozen years together, My Chemical Romance are calling it a day. The band announced their breakup through their website on Friday. 

"Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing," the announcement said. "We've gotten to go places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure."

The band, formed in 2001 by high school friends Gerard Way and Matt Pelissier, was a major force in the mainstreaming of emo. After their 2004 album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge went platinum, they toured with Green Day and co-headlined the 2005 Warped Tour. Capitalizing on that momentum, My Chemical Romance released their ambitious concept album, The Black Parade, in 2006, reaching Number Two in the charts. The band's last studio album, Danger Days: The True Lives of Fabulous Killjoys, came out in 2010.

"Beyond any sadness, what I feel the most is pride," Way wrote late Friday night on his personal Twitter account. 

Gerard Way has opened up about the split of My Chemical Romance in a new interview, whilst also addressing rumours of a possible reunion.

The emo outfit split in 2013, with rumours of a potential reunion circulating in 2016 when the band started to tease the 10th anniversary of classic album ‘The Black Parade’. However, the group failed to reunite for any new music or live shows.

Speaking about the break-up to The Guardian, Way said the band felt pressure during the sessions for 2010’s ‘Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys’ and said this played a part in the band’s split, as did the weight of expectation – something he said they’d felt since the success of ‘The Black Parade.’

Way said: “When things start to succeed and go really well…that’s when a lot of people start to have an opinion and that’s when you run into struggle…everybody had a fucking opinion about what MCR should be. So it made it difficult to figure out what direction to take next. You get caught up in this trap of ‘Is it ever gonna be good enough?’”

He added: “It wasn’t fun to make stuff any more. I think breaking up the band broke us out of that machine.”

At the time of their break up, Way said the band weren’t needed any more because Barack Obama was in power. When asked if the political climate now would be reason enough for the band to reform, Way revealed that he thought about it but doesn’t think it will happen, despite the fact he misses playing with the band.

Way added: “That’s stuff I thought about when the world started to get super fucked-up again…It definitely came into my head, but I’d changed so much as a person. I didn’t know how I’d fit into it any more, I didn’t know how the band would fit into it any more. But you’re right, the world is definitely in need of something positive.

“We definitely get offers regularly to reunite – it’s a constant thing…It’s flattering, it’s really nice of people…I miss playing with the guys, but I don’t think so.”

However, Way then went on to give MCR fans some hope, saying that if the band reformed, they would do things differently.

“I think if we ever did MCR again, we wouldn’t be in that machine any more,” he says. “It would literally just be like: ‘Here’s a new piece of music, we’re putting this out and that’s it, this is not up for debate.’”

In 2017, Way didn’t rule out a MCR reunion when the members of the band reunited publicly to attend a show together. They were all seen in attendance at former guitarist Frank Iero’s gig with new band The Patience at Los Angeles’ Troubadour.

Frontman Gerard Way later said of the occasion: “We all got together recently and it was wonderful – we didn’t even talk about the band or playing shows again. I don’t know if anything will happen in the future, but what I do know is everyone has a really great life right now.”

“It’s a tricky thing, because you have four guys that really get along, and I think we all fully understand each other now and love each other,” he added.

“I think [My Chemical Romance] will always be there for us if we want it, but it adds a layer of stress. When something gets really big like that, it’s hard on you for many reasons, and it’s very stressful, so I wouldn’t want to disrupt anybody’s life right now.”
