Griffin Darden was a character on the Chicago Fire cast during the first two seasons of the show.

He appeared in eight episodes, with the debut of his character coming in Mon Amour (Chicago Fire Season 1, Episode 2).

As for the question of who is Griffin Darden, he is the son of former firefighter Andrew Darden.

Andy Darden was good friends with Kelly Severide and Matthew Casey but he died in the series premiere. In fact, his death came within the first few minutes of that pilot episode.

Who was Griffin Darden on the Chicago Fire cast?

Due to the close relationship that Andy Darden and Matthew Casey had together after they went to the academy together, Andy and his wife, Heather Darden, wanted Casey to be the one to watch their sons if anything should ever happen to them.

Well, something came up in Season 2, when Heather ended up getting sent to prison. That led to Casey taking care of Griffin Darden and Ben Darden for most of the season. Casey became even closer with them than he had before, which also led to the boys being in more episodes.

Griffin Darden was originally played by Griffin Kane during the first season, but he was replaced by John Babbo for the Season 2 episodes. The last time that we saw the kids on the show was during Chicago Fire Season 2, Episode 7 (called No Regrets).

More Chicago Fire news

We had high hopes of a big One Chicago crossover taking place during the Fall 2021 television season. There were even reports that a crossover was coming, but that may no longer be in the cards.

It looks like a crossover between Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago Med has been shelved for the time being. That’s disappointing because it is always really interesting to see a night where the three shows interact with each other.

Hopefully, it can get off the ground soon, and possibly be filmed in order to air this spring on NBC.

In other news, the big Chicago Fire event to mark Episode No. 200 is coming up soon. We can’t want to see what gets covered in the episode, but there have already been a lot of hints about callbacks and “life-changing” moments for the characters of Firehouse 51.

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 2 “Head Count.”]

Chicago Fire dug deep into its history with a surprise visitor to Firehouse 51 at the end of the September 29 episode. And this teen was one Captain Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) definitely didn’t mind taking a moment to see.

As the episode revealed, Casey’s epic rescue in the premiere went viral, attracting the attention of teen girls flocking to the firehouse for selfies. Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende), on the other hand, wouldn’t have minded if his save in “Head Count” brought the same attention. Then, as the episode ended, Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) told Casey there was another teenager looking for him and offered to be a distraction while the captain left another way.

But Casey would be happy he didn’t take the out, once he joined the young man in front of the photos of those they’ve lost in the line of duty. “Now that’s a firefighter worthy of hero-worship, Andy Darden. He was a good friend of mine,” he said. “I know, Matt,” the young man said, turning. “He was my dad.” Welcome back, Griffin Darden!

“It’s been a while,” he acknowledged. “Feels like a lifetime,” Casey agreed, asking how he, his brother Ben, and their mother are doing. That’s when Griffin revealed the reason for his visit: “Matt, I need your help.”

As you may or may not recall, Andy Darden (Corey Sorenson) was the firefighter 51 lost during a call back in the series premiere in 2012. After, Casey stepped up to help the family, even taking in Andy’s sons while their mom was in prison for a DUI and vehicular manslaughter. When she got out, the family moved away. That was back in Season 2!

Spoilers ahead for Episode 2 of Chicago Fire Season 10 on NBC, called "Head Count."

Chicago Fire is delivering some big changes in the tenth season, with Boden moving on for his promotion, Cruz struggling with the job, Severide and Stella engaged, Brett working on a new project, and now Casey has encountered a major blast from the past whose arrival could mean trouble for him. He spent most of the episode dealing with internet fame after his rescue in the premiere went viral, only to end the hour heading to greet who he thought was just another teenage fan. Instead, it was somebody he hasn't seen in a long time: Griffin Darden.

Griffin Darden is all grown up from the last time he appeared on Chicago Fire back in Season 2, but he was an important part of Casey's life for a while. Andy Darden, who died in the series premiere, was a close friend of Casey's, and Casey got somewhat questionably close with Heather Darden after Andy's death. He ultimately took in Griffin and little brother Ben while Heather was behind bars for a DUI and vehicular manslaughter, and the whole Darden family ultimately moved away once Heather was released in Season 2.

Throw in the fact that Griffin 100% looks like he could be Casey's son if he was a little younger or Casey was a little older, and his return might have just been a fun blast from the past if not for the bombshell that Griffin dropped. When a happy Casey asked how Griffin's mom and little brother were, Griffin had to rain on his parade. Suddenly looking very serious, Griffin dropped four words that may mean a hard road ahead:

I need your help.

Well, things couldn't go too well for too long when it comes to Matt Casey! The relationship with Brett has seemingly been going well so far, but now he has something on his plate beyond focusing on his new romance. Brett also has some problems on her plate with the discovery that she'll need to work with her chief if her project to help the CFD make the most of its ambulance services is going to get off the ground, so Casey may not be able to draw on her for much help. It seems they both will have a lot going on in their own stories.

Of course, it's possible that Griffin needs the kind of help that won't take too much out of Casey, but this is Chicago Fire we're talking about. And of course Casey is going to help him! I do hope that whatever happens will allow Griffin to interact with some of the other veteran firefighters at 51. Casey may have been closer to him and his brother than any of the others, but it would still be fun to see Severide discovering Andy Darden's son all grown up. As for what's coming, a photo for next week's episode reveals one scene that Casey and Griffin will share:

The photo doesn't really give anything away other than that Griffin and Casey will be hanging out when Casey's off-the-clock and wearing civvies, but I still say that they look related. Seriously, when I first saw Griffin, my first thought was that Fire has introducing a surprise son that Casey never knew he had. Chicago Fire is ten seasons in, after all! Shows have delivered much more bonkers twists much earlier than ten years in. Could Griffin herald in a life-changing choice for Casey coming up?

Find out what's next for Casey with new episodes of Chicago Fire in the middle of One Chicago Wednesdays on NBC, which start with Chicago Med at 8 p.m. ET, continue with Chicago Fire at 9 p.m. ET, and finish with Chicago P.D. at 10 p.m. ET.
