This is a very stressful job and you aren't compensated well enough. On the flip side, it is an entry level position. If you work hard, there is opportunity for advancement and this is a great learning experience.

Medical transport assistant (Current Employee) - Thornton, CO - June 2, 2022

I've been at Shiloh for a year now. Overall I feel like this type of service is very important & it takes determination. Things seem to be going In the right direction. Obviously, not just anyone should be allowed to do this type of work. It takes a massive amount of compassion and patience to properly care for and support the clients, who are here because they NEED understanding and proper boundaries. I think those who don't stay are those who have grown accustomed to doing a 'job' & not providing a welcoming and safe atmosphere for clients and/or have been overworked and misunderstood in their communication for unmet needs & the ability to continue to provide what each client needs. This is HEART work and yes, it is hard work too.

Self-Contained Classroom Teacher (Former Employee) - Littleton, CO - September 20, 2021

No support from admin or higher ups. Covid policy continues to change, does not hear school staff safety concerns or questions about improving overall school safety. Best part about this job was working with the teacher team. They were always able to give support or offer advice when administrators didn’t/couldn’t .

The staff here is the issue, not he clients. I enjoyed seeing them everyday but hated how aggressive the other staff was. Supervisors and other higher ups in the company do not care about your mental health.

lack of encouragememnt and trust between staff

Worst working environment I have ever seen. Physical and verbal abuse by clients every second of the day and night with Zero accountability. Underpaid for job requirements. Should have armed police officers on duty at all times.

Prefer not to say (Former Employee) - Littleton, CO - April 11, 2021

While the work people do with the kids is amazing, there is still a lot of dysfunction. Front line staff are not fairly compensated for the work they do. Their safety takes a back seat to filling the beds. And the desire to make placing agencies happy is greater than ensuring all staff can actually meet the needs of all the clients placed there.

Talented committed staff to work with, amazing kids to help

Poor leadership at the higher levels

Treatment Counselor (Former Employee) - Denver, CO - March 15, 2021

Shiloh house is not a company that I would recommend to anyone. The work life balance is horrible. They do not pay you enough or care if we are understaffed. The turn over rate is super high and people do not care if staff is stressed out. We voice our concerns and no one listens. Working with the clients is the best part BUT that is the only good part of the job. They don't really tell you what the job is until you start to work. They need to change a lot of things in order for this place to be around for a very long time.

This organization guilts you into working extra because we all care about the kids, but then shames your for not finishing work when there is an unattainable amount of work to complete. The supervisors are not supportive, some are actively emotionally abusive.
I do not recommend this organization at all.

shiloh house does not properly advertise their positions. They lack the support they need to make it a job worth staying in. forget about having days off, you will get called in. you can forget about asking for the paid time off you earned, you'll get yelled at for even asking. clients do not get the proper treatment they need and staff does not get the appreciation and respect that they deserve. before applying here, know that any position you choose to take, you're basically asking to be a full time babysitter for clients that will beat you up and you won't even get a bathroom break.

Staff (Former Employee) - Littleton, CO - November 23, 2020

Exhausting work. If you are sick and need cover for your shift they expect you to do it, or come in anyways (this has changed a little due to Covid) Too many chiefs, who are disconnected from the reality of the actual hands-on work. They frequently manage by crisis. If there is an issue with how things get done that can be reasonably expected to be handled by management, they manage in crisis mode, then write a policy and procedure that makes the staff responsible for handling that type of instance in the future. Lots of lip service on how much they value their staff, who do the actual hands on work.

You meet and work with some anazing youth who need some guidance, care, etc. If you're good and fortunate, you can help change a life.

Independent Living Coach / Treatment Counselor (Former Employee) - Thornton/Longmont - November 10, 2020

Shiloh House is the worst place I have ever worked. Yes the kids are great and working with them is rewarding. Other than that you will have no support, terrible pay, most likely get injured by the kids, be over worked, and assigned other tasks that aren’t your job due to terrible understaffing and very high turn over rate. You will not get a raise or any additional compensation. I have seen the best most qualified people be forced to resign and quit due to all of these issues. The management is passive aggressive, unprofessional, and they only care about money. Nothing else. They feed the kids expired food, restrict access to books/learning, and HR is useless. HR will not listen to you, respond to you, or help you in anyway. They will sweep any problems you have under the rug and it will not go anywhere. This is an embarrassing excuse of an organization that claims to help children.

Office Administrator (Former Employee) - Denver, CO - November 9, 2020

The ladies in the shiloh house office in Denver are the most unprofessional people i have ever met. They had an disorganized interview and then two hours later offered me a job. Then an hour later said never mind and took back the job offer for no reason. I had not contacted them or any thing within that time frame. If the interview process is as disorganized and chaotic as the interview i hate to think what working there is like.

Maintenance Coordinator (Current Employee) - Littleton, CO - October 19, 2020

This is the best place ever! The Supervisors are very supportive and don't give up on their employees. Errors are corrected kindly and support is given constantly. There is a week long mandatory training schedule when you start along with mirror shifts to get you used to the job. There is lots of room for advancement since it's a tough job dealing with at-risk youth and lots of people can't handle the stress. Tons of upward mobility. I've gotten promoted twice already and I haven't been here a year yet! Everyone here is so nice. It can get a little hectic, but that's to be expected.

As far as maintenance goes it's quite varied and you get to learn a lot of new things. There are residential style buildings and commercial style buildings. We take care of buildings, landscapes, vehicles, etc. Very fun!

You get to eat meals with the kids for free. Family-like atmosphere.

It's tough emotionally sometimes since the kids have been through some things., Some people can't handle that and have to quit.

While the day to day is never the same, there are plenty of resources and overall support to get you through whatever it is that is on your plate that day. It can be stressful but the rewards are worth the cost!

I have worked for this agency for many years and the family culture and supportive work environment are fantastic. I feel valued, respected and appreciated. Although this field can be difficult, the co workers and management team, make those hard days much easier to handle.

Management is beyond unsupportive. There is constant pressure on employees to do more than their job requirements, while administration sits back. There is absolutely no sense of care or empathy for staff or children from administration - including lack of funding and resources. Always understaffed with highly aggressive clients and staff are constantly assaulted, and management turns a blind eye.

Special Education Teacher (Former Employee) - Longmont, CO - July 13, 2020

if you're more about helping people than making money, this is your place. The caveat: you need nerves, patience and emotional skills of steel. Longmont campus is the most supportive for staff.

little pay, new staff has very little training

Life Skills Coach (Former Employee) - Adams County, CO - July 13, 2020

I worked as a life skills coach for over a year and a half. I didn’t work in the residential programs which were definitely worse but they have a habit of hiring under qualified staff paying them too little and simply writing them off as soon as they arrive. No training, poor management, and high stress environment lead to a lot of burn out and despair. Even if you manage to stick around there is no room for advancement and they are always short staffed. Only the corporate staff got treated well and they were no help to those actually working with kids and families.

JC is literally the only person in an admin role that is nice to you. Period. Nepotism all the way! Look at the board of directors. This place is SCARY to work at! You WILL get left alone ALL the time. The clients here will threaten you, hurt you both physically and emotionally with absolutely NO recourse or punishment. Even tehy feel unsafe and scared. Hardly anyone liked working here but have to stay because of COVID

Work atmosphere, little pay, no support, unsafe at all times

Demz Ari (Former Employee) - FRP - May 3, 2020

In my tenure working for an NGO like Shiloh House, I’ve seen unscrupulous behavior between certain staff and the kids they housed. The impartial treatment of young PoC’s not only went unpunished but often swept under the rug. There was one instance when a child was escalating in his behavior and somehow got the car keys to one of the company cars. The young man was an African-American male and he was accompanied by a young Caucasian male. The two allegedly got into the car and attempted to start and drive away with it. Thinking fast, the young man quickly went into reverse, slightly backed out of the spot, then quickly put the car back in drive and drove back in. The young African-American male was taken off to jail, while the young Caucasian male received a slap on the wrist. Another instance was when the children were escalated and weren’t following staff instructions and engaging in reckless behavior at the Family Resource Pavilion. The police were called for assistance and a minor (young African-American female) was tased. Prior to that event, there were instances where young white males were engaging in similar destructive behavior. Some instances the police came, made a report and left. Other instances, the police weren’t contacted at all the Caucasian children were allowed to stay in the program worry-free. I’ve found at my experience and a child is twice as likely to have the police contacted on them for similar destructive behaviors as their white counterparts.

It doesn’t stop at the inconsistency in punishment for the kids. Also, young PoCs would tell staff that
