He debuted in the NASCAR Busch Series in 1996, driving for team owner Harry Rainer. During this time, his highest result was 16th. He also competed in the Craftsman Truck Series, where he placed tenth.

Stewart collided with Kevin Ward Jr.’s vehicle during a sprint car race in New York in 2014. Ward collided into a wall as a consequence.
