Hiya! I don’t play this particular game, but I have been plagued by very melodramatic Merge Mansion ads for months and have always wondered what is up with all this family drama… might some of the experts on this subreddit be able to quench my curiosity? Why did the red-haired girl’s fiancé leave her? What is grandma hiding? How many people has she murdered? Why does she get arrested and who is alive? Do any of these soap opera ads actually have anything to do with the game or is it just a ploy to lure people in? Please enlighten me.

So, long story, short, I had to change my phone and, obviously, one of the first apps I installed on my new phone is Merge Mansion. Well, when I checked the app for the first time on my new device, it started with the cutscene of grandma being taken away by the police! And then the cutscene moved 3 months earlier, when Maddie received a letter that her Grandma has an estate that it's about to be seized because she didn't pay her taxes! She begged her grandma to go and see the estate together after she paid all the taxes by herself lol

And on top of the giant amount of taxes she had to pay, apparently Maddie has to restore the house or else the city council is going to demolish it.

I don't know if it was common knowledge, but I was pleasantly surprised by the change. Especially since when I first started playing it the game had no proper backstory 😅

I know there are those who disagree but I don’t think this game actually has a story and I don’t really mind. It has a concept, which is fabulous, but the lore is a complete afterthought.

(The ads are all contradictory because they’re like all game ads, clickbait which is only vaguely related to the game. Having watched a billion ads for other games, the only way I could be less convinced by the “dumped on my wedding day” scenario (which isn’t in the game at all) would be if it then showed Maddie moving into the mansion and having to board up the windows and light a fire before she froze to death. The Kathy Bates ones are fab but of course they have no real plot either.)

None of this is a problem cos MM is all about the gameplay. Meantime I will work up my epic MM fanfic while levelling up the broom cabinets in anticipation of new updates…

I have never played the game but I’ve seen the ads and I was wondering what the story is if anyone can provide a tldr and spoilers !

Quite frankly, the timeline doesn’t make sense anymore. Who are these characters? Where is the consistency? My biggest gripe is with granny (shirt for grandma) Ursula. In some of the promotional shorts, she is portrayed as revealing to Maddie/Maddy a secret of their family: the eponymous merge mansion. The reason she reveals this varies, but usually because she (Maddie/maddy) is sad/upset about being dumped by her fiancé. However, the most prevalent video shorts seam to show granny Ursula being arrested. There are two alternate endings to these sorts of ads. In one, she is shown in the back of a police cruiser, but before driving away, reveals to her granddaughter that “he is alive,” however, who HE is is STILL UNKNOWN!!! Then, there is another ending where, instead of being arrested, granny Ursula leaves with her luggage, leaving behind an envelope for her granddaughter containing the secret history of their family. What is most consistent about granny ursula’s character is how much she loves and cares for her granddaughter. DESPITE THIS, there is one ad that, quite frankly, makes me ill to my damn stomach! And I’m sorry to@swear but it just puts me in a sour mood! In this video advertisement short, maddy calls her grandmother–granny Ursula–presumably asking for help. Granny Ursula–Maddie’s grandMother–acts coMPLETELY OUT OF D*AMN LINE AND RHROWS HER PHONE INTO THE POOL SHE IS RELAXING IN INSTEAD OF HELPING HER GRANDAUGHTER?!?!!!! WHAT?!!!! I simply don’t understand, but I believe I speak on behalf of all of us fans of merge mansion when I say we demand a CLEAR and CONCISE timeline.

I have no intentions of ever playing it but the trailers are making me nosey. Can someone spoil the whole it for me.
