“I like brunettes”, “My type is tall, dark and handsome” and “I think redheads are the sexiest!” are just some of the many comments you likely will have heard on the topic of hair colour and attractiveness at some point or another We all have our individual tastes and types, even if we don’t always go for ‘our type on paper’! But which hair colour do most people find the most attractive? And which can be crowned the sexiest hair colour of 2021?
We conducted a survey to find out what people in 2021 think is the ultimate sexiest hair colour. To do this we surveyed 2,000 UK adults in March 2021 using the market research company censuswide.
Blonde is Crowned the Sexiest Hair Colour of 2021!
When asked which hair colour they think is sexiest, almost a third of people said they have no preference. However, of those who did have a colour preference:
- Most say that blonde hair is the sexiest (31.5%)
- The second sexiest hair colour is brunette, as more than three quarters of people (28.5%) voted this shade.
- Red hair was ranked in 3rd position, being voted for by almost 1 in every 5 respondents (19%).
- Only 15.5% chose black hair and just 5% think grey is the sexiest shade.
Which hair colour do men think is the sexiest?
Our survey suggests that most men have a preference for blonde hair, as a quarter of men in the UK chose this hair colour option when asked which shade they found the sexiest. The second most voted hair colour amongst men was brunette, which received 16.2% of male votes. Red followed closely behind in third spot, though, gaining a 15.3% share of men’s votes.
Which hair colour do women think is the sexiest?
Most women think brunette hair is the sexiest, as 25% of those polled favoured this option. Womens’ second preference is blonde, which was voted as the sexiest hair colour by 19.6% of women. Again, red took third spot, accounting for 11.8% of womens’ votes.
How does age influence our views?
- The majority of those aged 16-45 say they think brunette is the sexiest hair colour
- Whereas those aged 45+ favoured blonde over other colours.
- Grey hair appears to be the UK’s least sexy hair colour, with fewer than 1% of all age groups voting for this option.
As title asks, what colour hair do you find most attractive on guys?

Some red-headed guys, especially if they have pale skin and green/brown eyes. However, I also like brown hair.

I voted for dark blonde because most of the men I find attractive have that colour hair but it's definitely not anywhere near the top of my list of priorities in a man. My boyfriend has medium brown hair and at one point or another I've been attracted to every option on the list.
