The built in defender is going to be good enough for most people

I'd say that common sense and Windows Defender are enough, unless you're planning to visit some sketchy sites for whatever reason. Patience is a virtue as well, it's a good idea to check downloaded files with checksums when available.

No. Just saying this after uninstalling Avira AntiVirus back in 2004 and haven't used any 3rd party anti-virus since.

Smart browsing and downloading is the best antivirus. That being said, we all make mistakes sometimes. The built in Windows Defender is really all you need as a backup. Almost every other free 3rd party program is either malware itself or is practically useless for how many resources it consumes in the background.

This. I'm tired of explaining people that the antivirus they've installed is the virus itself. "But here it says that my pc it's fine" *opens chrome, a thousand of hundres of tabs of "secure search engines" appeared and you try to run away but it's too late and your soul is condemned. *

Or the ad networks on the sites we go to make mistakes.
That's the part that worries me and keeps me using an antivirus, because I know I've been hit at least once from a dodgy ad on a perfectly ordinary PHP website. Luckily, the exploit didn't take.

Windows defender has a Ransomware protection but has to be enabled. It protects 2 fold. It works best if you already are running bitlocker as well. It tries to stop Ransomware from running, but if enabled, keeps a running backup of your critical files backed up in OneDrive. So you can recover your desktop, docs, pictures etc in case something slips through. I've tested it on a VM and worked really well.

Windows Defender works better than any 3rd party tool. I'm guessing people who need 3rd party solutions suck at computers. Just my opinion.

I'm guessing people who need 3rd party solutions suck at computers.
So the majority of computer users?
level 2
I wouldn't go that far. Windows Defender is great for home use but businesses need something even better to guarantee that the data is safe.

This combined with thinking the worlds Internet is advanced enough for game streaming is making me wish we needed a license to use a computer because there are some dangerously ignorant retards on this planet.
Jesus Christ shit in a bucket.

Not really. Windows Defender works decently enough, is built in and enabled already, and has a fairly small resource footprint. Third party antivirus tend to also be more annoying/invasive with popups and such, while with Defender most people don't even know it's there.
No antivirus will protect you from your own stupidity, though. Use common sense and don't download and run sketchy things.
level 1
More than enough. Just be mindful of what you download
level 1
malwarebytes and windows defender unless you go into really scetchy sites
level 2
Malwarebytes Premium is excellent at blocking trojans while torrenting.

If you want the headache of 3rd party antivirus breaking every few months and having to reinstall the software, just go with the build in defender. I use to use trend micro with no issues until windows 10 came out and I would notice my computer would get slow, after some investigation I found that trend micro would need to be reinstalled and then it would run fine until another windows update broke it

If you use edge along side windows defender you are fully protected because you cant accidentally download things like with chrome or firefox.
