Doing so removes the phone from the list of devices associated with your account and prevents new owners from being able to access information about you. 

You should also turn the feature off if you need to send your iPhone in for service, according to Apple's support page. 

Fortunately, Apple makes it easy to turn off Find My iPhone. The steps vary depending on the operating system you're using, but you only need a few steps to flip that switch. Here's what you need to know.

How to turn off Find My iPhone (on iOS 13 or later)

1. Open up the Settings menu.
2. Select your name at the top of the menu. Then select the Find My option.

3. At the top of the next page, Tap Find My iPhone, and toggle the Find My iPhone setting off. You can also toggle off the Find My network, and the Send Last Location option (which automatically sends the location of your phone to Apple when the battery is critically low).

4. Enter your Apple ID password. and select Turn Off.

How to turn off Find My iPhone (on iOS 12 or earlier)

1. Go to the Settings menu. 

2. At the top of the menu, tap on your name. 

3. Navigate to the iCloud menu, and enter your password. 

4. Choose Turn Off to disable Find my iPhone.

How to turn off Find My iPhone on iPhone 8/iPhone X in iOS 11

Part 1: Disable Find My iPhone on iPhone

Step 1: Open Settings App on your iPhone 8/iPhone X in iOS 11.

Step 2: Tap on [your name] and click iCloud.

Step 3: Scroll down to choose to Find My iPhone.

Part 2: Remove the device from Find My iPhone

After you turn off Find My iPhone feature from your iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X in iOS 11, you can remove the device from Find My iPhone using iCloud on computer.

Step 1: Open a browser on your computer and visit iCloud.com.

Step 2: Enter your Apple ID and Password to log into iCloud.

Step 3: Among the options, choose Find iPhone.

Step 4: Click All Devices in the top middle of the screen and click the iPhone you want to remove.

Step 5: Tap on Remove from Account to remove your device from Find My iPhone.

Step 1. Connect your new iPhone X or iPhone 8 to your computer with a USB cable. Tap "Trust This Computer" on your iPhone screen if a pop-up asks. Run EaseUS MobiMover and go to the "Backup Manager" mode. Click "Backup" to start backing up iPhone X or iPhone 8 to your Window PC.
